Dr. Laureano-Vega is one of the original incorporators of the League Against AIDS, the oldest Hispanic AIDS Services Organization in the United States. Manny was born in Puerto Rico and had the unique experience of living in many countries because he is an Army brat. He graduated from Antilles High School in Ft. Buchanan, Puerto Rico, and then moved to Florida and received his Bachelor degree in biology from the University of Tampa, Florida in 1978. He completed his Master's degree in neuro-biology in 1981 from the University of Puerto Rico, and his Medical Doctorate in 1986 from the Universidad Central del Este, Dominican Republic. Manny has dedicated his work to establishing health networks to battle the surge of new epidemics we face as a community. His work in HIV/AIDS began in 1985 and today it has been almost 25 years of work in the fight against HIV/AIDS. He has been honored repeatedly for the quality and quantity of his work, among some of these are the Hispanic Man of the year Award (1999, Hispanic Empresarios of Miami) and his listing in The Who's Who Among Hispanic Americans (1992). Most of all we value his compassion and dedication to serving the Hispanic HIV/AIDS Community of Miami-Dade County. Dr. Laureano also teaches at the Sistema Universitario Ana G. Mendez, where he teaches, Biology, Health Care Management, Public Health, and Integrated Science courses to undergraduates.
Ms. Priscilla Reyes is a Puerto Rican woman that has come back to work at the League after a 20 year hiatus. She was one of the very first members of our volunteer services department when the League was created in 1988, since then she has worked at the best AIDS services organizations in South Florida. She was one of the best case managers in Ft. Lauderdale, working for the case management departments of both Center One and the Broward County Health Department and was recognized with a life-time work award at the USCA. Ms. Reyes has worked in various aspects of HIV/AIDS care ranging from social to medical case management, HAART patient education, has been an HIV/AIDS housing specialist with HOPWA South Florida programs. She is an accomplished Ryan White case manager and now is working in the League's Medicaid PAC case management program. She is a no nonsense individual that strives to move her clients toward self-sufficiency and independence. Her skills, compassion, and good judgment make her an excellent case manager. We are glad that Priscilla has come back home to work in our patient care program.
Ms. Sosa Vazquez comes to the League from Cuba. She has great commitment to this work and always places the needs of the client as a priority in her life. She is knowledgeable about health care systems and public health as she is persuing her bachelors degree in Health Services Management at the Ana G. Mendez University System. She is presently learning aspects of patient care related to medical services provided through the Social Security system, the Florida Department of Children and Families, as well as, the Agency for Health Care Administration. She is a firm believer in treat others the way in which you wish to be treated. She has been working as a case managent assistant.
Ms. Gonzalez is a professional trainer and instructor. She has a degree in Medicine and is working on a Masters in Public Health from Ana G. Mendez University. She has a bachelors degree in Health Services Administration and did her internship training at the League. She comes to us from the Dominican Republic where she attended the Univesidad Central del Este. She has volunteered her services to many AIDS prevention services organizations such as the American Red Cross and has experience with the different care networks like the Visiting Nurses Association in Miami-Dade County. Here at La Liga she is training on Medicaid Case Management Administrative procedures and managing medical case management record archives. She is also interested in working with the Hispanic community of South Florida in the prevention of illness that are over represented within the population of Spanish speaking people.
